DIVINING THE FUTURE?

Published 6th August, 2019

We're going to play the devil's advocate here. Obviously this depends on the timing of a GE in relation to the progress of Brexit, but in a Leave orientated town any party which backs remain is on the back foot. So Hill (or anyone else standing for Labour) is handicapped. A strong Brexit candidate could swing it BUT maybe the ex HUFC manager wasn't the best choice - or maybe he was an inspired choice to appeal to disaffected voters? We've a feeling that (despite what's being claimed publically) that there'll be a GE after a vote of no confidence in September (which could well fail as it isn't easy for an MP to sign their own P45). Even if such a vote managed to get through Parliament has 14 days to come up with an alternative. Only after that does a GE get called - and Parliament is dissolved 25 working days before a general election at a minute past midnight. So, depending on timing (& without proroguing Parliament) the natural cessation could allow Brexit to go through in the lead up to an election in November. Then the majority of the town (being Leavers) are so pleased that they break the habits of a lifetime and vote in a Conservative MP as Boris delivered Brexit? Just a thought but ....
